Birthdays and Facebook

I read about a guy who had 400+ friends in Facebook. One day he woke up as a curious little wanker and wondered if he is really that sociable. So he organized a party and sent invitations to all his contacts over Facebook. 50% confirmed and another 20% were tentative. He was delighted - that’s one hell of a response, actually. The real day came. Our man waited at the venue, which happened to be a popular joint, but no single soul turned up. An hour later, one woman came but she also left in the next 30 minutes. He had 400 friends and yet he ended up drinking alone that night. So the question to ponder is how close are our virtual worlds to the reality? . But my case was quite not as somber. Yesterday was my birthday. Facebook reminded of it to a whole lot of my gang. Some of them have never wished me in decades and some are new. How exciting! So here is my big thanks to all my dear friends for the wishes over calls, sms and facebook. You made me feel special. Special thanks to cutie p...

Who runs this world?

A quick bio recap, anyone? "Fungi" are neither plants nor animals. There are about 29,000 microfungi estimated so far. In a small decaying leaf, you can spot 145 different species of fungi. They are nature’s scavengers tasked to break down all the non living organic matter by feeding on them. Impartial that they don’t care if its your sh*t or you yourself. So, its not Obama but the fungi that run the world actually. And fungus spread by dispersing their spores – which are like seeds in the plants kingdom. This blog is about a special fungus called Pilobolus . Pilobolus will attain its nirvana if it can decompose a lump of cow dung. Now, being an immobile mushroom, how does it locate the cow dung? Seriously mates, that was the most awesome thing I came across recently. Pilobolus has evolved a way to shoot its spores out. The spores fly away at 35 feet per second, at a height of six feet, and land as far away as 8 feet on the nearby patch of grass. A cow might eat that grass to...

The Battle of the Buddha

Do you know who Jesus was fighting against? When the world went down with the great depression in the 1930s, do you know who was celebrating? When you are itchy of acquiring anything which is an economical stretch far beyond your potential, do you know whom you are worshiping? Do you know who Buddha was preaching against? When the Wall Street guys robbed innocents off their retirement funds and yet splurged on the public money in exotic resorts, do you know who felt flattered? Do you know who Gandhi strived to keep away from? Do you know who is the reason for all the inequalities on the earth today?
